LNG as shipping fuel

Changes in the market of fuels used as shipping bunker.

The new year will bring significant changes in the market of fuels used to power vessels. Starting from January 1st, 2015, the maximum sulfur content in the bunker fuel for the vessels sailing in the Baltic Sea will be 0.1%. This requirement is met by liquefied natural gas. Ships powered with LNG are more and more common on European seas. Other benefits of implementing LNG as ship bunker are reduced fuel costs, lower exhaust emissions and lower operating expenses.
